Mega Evolution series: every set from ME01 to ME06
The Mega Evolution series is the run of Pokémon TCG expansions that launched in France on 10 October 2025 with ME01 and continues through to ME06 Delta Reign, announced for 6 November 2026. Its common thread: the return of Mega Evolutions as "Mega ex" cards. Here's what you need to know, set by set, to find your way around.
The idea behind the series: the big return of Megas
Mega Evolutions defined the XY era more than ten years ago. They're back here with a new game rule: when a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes three Prize cards, compared with two for a regular Pokémon ex. These cards are therefore powerful, but risky to play.
On the collecting side, each set showcases a few "headline" Mega ex that appear on the booster packs and the Elite Trainer Box, and whose rarest versions (special illustration rare, Mega hyper rare) are the most sought-after cards.
The French sets, in order
| Code | Set | French release | Headline Mega ex |
|---|---|---|---|
| ME01 | Mega Evolution | 10 October 2025 | Mega Gardevoir ex, Mega Lucario ex |
| ME02 | Phantasmal Flames | 14 November 2025 | Mega Charizard X ex |
| ME02.5 | Ascended Heroes | 30 January 2026 | Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Charizard Y ex |
| ME03 | Perfect Order | 27 March 2026 | Mega Zygarde ex |
| ME04 | Chaos Rising | 22 May 2026 | Mega Greninja ex |
| ME05 | Pitch Black | 17 July 2026 | Mega Darkrai ex |
| ME06 | Delta Reign | 6 November 2026 (announced) | Mega Rayquaza ex |
Between ME05 and ME06 sits the special 30th Celebration set, released in September 2026, which we cover in a dedicated guide.
ME01 to ME02.5: a flying start
ME01 Mega Evolution opens the series with a generous list: 132 numbered cards, and more than 180 counting secret cards. Its European release was pushed back two weeks compared with the rest of the world. A notable feature: the Elite Trainer Box comes in two versions, one featuring Mega Gardevoir, the other Mega Lucario.
ME02 Phantasmal Flames is a tighter set (130 cards, 36 of them secret), led by Mega Charizard X ex. Needless to say, its appeal reaches well beyond players.
ME02.5 Ascended Heroes is a special set, much larger (nearly 300 cards), bringing together many Mega ex in brand-new illustrations. It was released in a variety of boxes: an Elite Trainer Box featuring Mega Dragonite, collections with a poster or pins, Mini Tins…
ME03 to ME06: cruising speed
From ME03 onwards, the series settles into a regular pace of roughly one set every two months, with lists of around 120 cards including secret rares:
- Perfect Order (ME03): 124 cards, built around Mega Zygarde ex, with Mega Starmie ex and Mega Clefable ex too.
- Chaos Rising (ME04): Mega Greninja ex tops the bill, surrounded by Mega Floette ex, Mega Dragalge ex and Mega Pyroar ex.
- Pitch Black (ME05): 120 cards and six Mega ex, including Mega Darkrai ex and Mega Zeraora ex. See our Pitch Black guide.
- Delta Reign (ME06): centred on Mega Rayquaza ex, covered in our dedicated article.
The link with the Japanese sets
As is often the case, the French sets are based on sets released first in Japan, a few weeks or months earlier. Here's how they match up:
- ME01: Mega Brave (M1L) and Mega Symphonia (M1S), combined into a single set;
- ME02: Inferno X (M2);
- ME02.5: MEGA Dream ex (M2a), supplemented with a few cards from decks;
- ME03: Munikis Zero (M3);
- ME04: Ninja Spinner (M4);
- ME05: Abyss Eye (M5), with a few additions;
- ME06: Storm Emeralda (M6), expanded with extra cards.
Details of the Japanese sets can be found in our guide to the Japanese MEGA series.
Where to start in the series?
If you're new to the series, ME01 remains the natural entry point: it's the set that lays the foundations and has the most cards. Charizard fans will look towards ME02 and Ascended Heroes. If you'd rather keep up with the latest, Pitch Black is the most recent main set, pending Delta Reign. The series' French products are gathered in the Mega collection; add the ones you're interested in to your request list and we'll get back to you on availability.
FAQ
What do the codes ME01, ME02… mean?
They are the sequence numbers of the sets in the Mega Evolution series. Half numbers, such as ME02.5, denote special sets outside the main cycle.
Why does a Mega ex give up three Prize cards?
It's the trade-off for their power: the Mega Evolution ex rule awards the opponent three Prize cards when one is Knocked Out, compared with two for an ordinary Pokémon ex.
Are the French sets identical to the Japanese ones?
Not always. ME01 merges two Japanese sets, and several sets such as Ascended Heroes or Pitch Black include cards that aren't in the original Japanese set. The booster format also differs.
Where can I find the series' products at Rarix?
In the Mega collection or in the French-language Pokémon catalogue. For any questions, contact us.
