Pitch Black (ME05): the complete guide to the Pokémon set
Pitch Black (ME05) is the fifth main set in the Mega Evolution block, released in France on 17 July 2026. It contains 120 cards and six Mega Pokémon ex, with Mega Darkrai ex as the headliner. Its French name is Nuit Noire; in Japan it corresponds to the Abyss Eye (M5) set.
Pitch Black at a glance
- Code: ME05, the fifth set in the Mega Evolution block.
- French release: 17 July 2026, the same day as the English version.
- Card list: 120 cards, made up of 84 "main" cards and 36 secret cards.
- Booster packs: 10 cards per pack, with four different artworks (Mega Darkrai, Mega Zeraora, Mega Chandelure, Mega Excadrill).
- Equivalents: Pitch Black in English, Abyss Eye (M5) in Japan, released there on 22 May 2026.
The mood: a set steeped in darkness
As the name suggests, Pitch Black leans into darkness and nightmares, with Darkrai ruling the night. It is also the first main set to draw on the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which explains the arrival of Mega Evolutions never before seen on cards.
Opposite Darkrai, Mega Zeraora ex brings a very striking electric touch. The two Mythical Pokémon share top billing, giving Pitch Black two "star cards" rather than one.
The set's six Mega ex
| No. | Card | Key point |
|---|---|---|
| 008/084 | Mega Delphox ex | Added compared with the Japanese set |
| 027/084 | Mega Zeraora ex | The set's second face |
| 031/084 | Mega Slowbro ex | Added compared with the Japanese set |
| 038/084 | Mega Chandelure ex | Featured on a booster pack artwork |
| 048/084 | Mega Darkrai ex | Headliner, four versions |
| 065/084 | Mega Excadrill ex | Featured on a booster pack artwork |
So Pitch Black is not an exact copy of Abyss Eye: the international version adds Mega Delphox ex, Mega Slowbro ex and a Supporter card taken from Japanese promotional products.
The cards everyone is chasing
The most sought-after cards are among the 36 secrets, numbered 085 to 120. The special illustration rares are Mega Zeraora ex (114), Mega Chandelure ex (115), Mega Darkrai ex (116), Morpeko (117), plus the Trainer cards Gladion's Final Battle (118) and Lillie (119).
The very last card in the list, 120/084, is the mega hyper rare version of Mega Darkrai ex: it closes out the set. We cover every version of this Pokémon in our Mega Darkrai ex guide.
Bear in mind that pull rates are not officially published: no product guarantees any of these cards.
Which Pitch Black product should you choose?
- The booster display: the go-to format for opening in volume or keeping a sealed box. French displays usually hold 36 booster packs.
- The Elite Trainer Box: featuring Mega Darkrai. In its international version it contains 9 booster packs, a foil Zarude promo card, 65 card sleeves, 40 Energy cards, dice and a player's guide.
- The 6-pack Booster Bundle: a good middle ground for opening more than a single pack without going for a full display.
- The 3-pack blister: ideal as a gift or a first taste of the set.
If you are torn between the two main formats, our display vs ETB comparison will help you decide.
